Joke's on Me is the album he wrote in the apartments and motel rooms he was passing through, sung in the voice of someone who has watched a lot of things not work out and stopped pretending they would.

It's a comedy album that doesn't sound like one.

The songs have hooks. The production is chart-ready. The first single sounds like a sun-deck pop-house track about renovating a kitchen.

It's not about a kitchen.

But you're allowed to enjoy the kitchen song while you figure that out.
